Andhra govt to decide | The News Minute"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Minister was reacting to reports that suggested that the state could appoint TDP leader Putta Sudhakar Yadav for the post.<\/p>\n<p>Veteran film director K Raghavendra Rao has reportedly been finalised as the new chairman of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD).<\/p>\n<p>TTD, which manages the Lord Venkateswara shrine atop Tirumala, is one of the richest religious bodies in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu is also believed to have given his approval to Rao for the TTD post.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/epaper.timesgroup.com\/Olive\/ODN\/TimesOfIndia\/\">reports<\/a>, the TTD head\u2019s name was expected to be announced on Saturday after a cabinet meeting, but was postponed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA top functionary in the government had a meeting with the director recently in Hyderabad. Now the government has sought his detailed profile to take the process forward. A communication from a Special Secretary has already gone to him,\u201d a source told\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/andhra-pradesh\/raghavendra-rao-likely-to-be-ttd-chairman\/article22483185.ece\">The Hindu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Rao has been serving as a Board member of the TTD since 2015. The post of chairman was lying vacant since Chadalavada Krishna Murthy completed his term last year.<\/p>\n<p>In October last year,\u00a0Andhra Endowments Minister P Manikyala Rao said that the state government would not hurt anyone&#8217;s sentiments while appointing the Chairman of the TTD.<\/p>\n<p>Social media was abuzz with posts claiming that Yadav was not a &#8216;Hindu&#8217; and supported members of another faith. Yadav was also reported to be a relative of state Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu.<\/p>\n<p>In May last year, IAS officer Anil Kumar Singhal took charge as the new Executive Officer (EO) of the TTD, much to the displeasure of some.<\/p>\n<p>Actor-politician Pawan Kalyan was one of those, who hit out against the decision.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am not against &#8216;North Indian IAS&#8217; officials taking charge of TTD, but would they allow any south Indian to take up an administrative position of a sacred shrine in north India?&#8221; he had tweeted at the time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Minister was reacting to reports that suggested that the state could appoint TDP leader Putta Sudhakar Yadav for the post.
