{"id":116741,"date":"2018-03-24T10:43:56","date_gmt":"2018-03-24T05:13:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/globalpress.hinduismnow.org\/?p=116741"},"modified":"2018-03-24T10:43:56","modified_gmt":"2018-03-24T05:13:56","slug":"rss-adds-250-shakhas-bengal-1-year-times-india","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/globalpress-new.hinduismnow.org\/?p=116741","title":{"rendered":"RSS adds 250 shakhas in Bengal in 1 year | Times of India"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KOLKATA: Rashtriya Swayamsevak\u00a0Sangh\u00a0(RSS) has added more than 250 shakhas across\u00a0Bengal\u00a0in the last one year, and it plans to go beyond block levels to \u201creach out\u201d to people at the \u201cmandal\u201d or gram panchayat level.<\/p>\n<p>A senior Sangh functionary explained that the rising number was a result of \u201cthe increased response from socially and economically backward areas\u201d, which prompted the organisation to \u201cspread its network\u201d in Bengal.<\/p>\n<p>After gaining considerable traction in Hooghly district and\u00a0Durgapur, the number of shakhas has grown from around 1,100 in 2016 to more than 1,350 in 2017. \u201cGrowth is being witnessed in areas where people lack basic facilities like education and health. We are getting response from people. Based on the response, we are spreading into areas where people have expressed their willingness for seva,\u201d the leader said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that localised development models had helped the organisation grow by more than 20% in the last one year in Bengal.<\/p>\n<p>At present, RSS operates through 910 shakhas in 650 places in south Bengal and 452 shakhas in 373 places in north Bengal. The number of weekly activity or milans stands at 1,092 and there are 226 mandalis active across the state.<\/p>\n<p>In its report at the three-day meeting of Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS), the highest decision-making body of RSS has noted its increased acceptance across Bengal. \u201cWe have also seen a good response through the \u2018Join RSS\u2019 portal, where people enrol and express their willingness to participate in voluntary work,\u201d said Jishnu Basu, \u2018pranta karyavaha\u2019 of the south Bengal unit.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past few years, RSS has focused on running primary-level schools in districts, while secondary-level schools are run by various trusts. \u201cOur primary focus has been education, health and \u2018go-palan\u2019 (taking care of cattle).
