{"id":118945,"date":"2018-04-18T19:40:17","date_gmt":"2018-04-18T14:10:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/globalpress.hinduismnow.org\/?p=118945"},"modified":"2018-04-18T19:40:17","modified_gmt":"2018-04-18T14:10:17","slug":"uproar-in-odisha-house-over-disruption-in-temple-service-pti","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/globalpress-new.hinduismnow.org\/?p=118945","title":{"rendered":"Uproar in Odisha House over &#8220;disruption in temple service&#8221; | PTI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0Odisha\u00a0Assembly witnessed repeated adjournments today amid an uproar by the\u00a0Congress\u00a0and the\u00a0BJP\u00a0members over ritual management at Shree\u00a0Jagannath\u00a0Temple in\u00a0Puri.<\/p>\n<p>As soon as the House assembled for the day, the Congress\u00a0and the\u00a0BJP\u00a0legislators rose on their feet to protest against what they alleged was a &#8220;disruption in temple service&#8221; yesterday.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1490771277198-0\" class=\"article-middle-banner\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/6516239\/outofpage_1x1_desktop_0__container__\">The members stormed the well of the House, alleging that the\u00a0state government\u00a0was &#8220;apathetic to the issue&#8221; even as\u00a0Speaker\u00a0PK Amat requested them to calm down.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>As repeated pleas to allow proceedings during the Question Hour were ignored, the\u00a0speaker\u00a0adjourned the House till 11.30 am.<\/p>\n<p>When the members reassembled, the issue cropped up once again during the Zero Hour with the opposition members creating a fresh ruckus in the Assembly.<\/p>\n<p>Unable to run the House, the\u00a0speaker\u00a0adjourned the proceedings again till 12.50 pm.<\/p>\n<p>As the deadlock continued in the House, the\u00a0Speaker\u00a0announced adjournment for the third time till 3pm and called for an all-party meeting to resolve the issue.<\/p>\n<p>In the post-lunch session, the Assembly witnessed at least two more adjournments.<\/p>\n<p>The disruption of rituals since yesterday at Shri\u00a0Jagannath\u00a0temple was condemnable &#8220;as both the lord and the devotees were deprived of Mahaprasad&#8221;,\u00a0Leader\u00a0of Opposition Narasingha Mishra\u00a0told reporters outside the House.<\/p>\n<p>Alleging negligence on the part of the ruling dispensation, Mishra said the government should have held consultations with the servitors&#8217; bodies in this regard.<\/p>\n<p>The incident has &#8220;hurt the sentiments of the devotees, not just in\u00a0Odisha\u00a0but across the world&#8221;, senior\u00a0BJP\u00a0legislator\u00a0Pradip Purohit\u00a0claimed.<\/p>\n<p>Official\u00a0sources said a row between the servitors and Shree\u00a0Jagannath\u00a0Temple Administration (SJTA) had led to the impasse yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The servitors staged a sit-in outside the temple, seeking compensation for the losses incurred due to wastage of &#8216;Mahaprasad&#8217; following the delay in ritual observation.<\/p>\n<p>Voicing concern over the situation, the\u00a0chief whip\u00a0of BJD government, Amar Prasad Satpathy, clarified that the state government is &#8220;fully aware&#8221; of the situation and necessary steps will be taken to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.<\/p>\n<p>The issues related to Lord\u00a0Jagannath\u00a0&#8220;should not be politicized&#8221;, he added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0Odisha\u00a0Assembly witnessed repeated adjournments today amid an uproar by the\u00a0Congress\u00a0and the\u00a0BJP\u00a0members over ritual management at Shree\u00a0Jagannath\u00a0Temple in\u00a0Puri.
