{"id":15836,"date":"2016-08-12T09:01:55","date_gmt":"2016-08-12T03:31:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/globalpress.hinduismnow.org?p=15833&amp;preview_id=15833"},"modified":"2016-08-12T09:01:55","modified_gmt":"2016-08-12T03:31:55","slug":"twelve-day-krishna-pushkaram-river-festival-commences-on-friday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/globalpress-new.hinduismnow.org\/?p=15836","title":{"rendered":"Twelve-day Krishna Pushkaram river festival commences on Friday | The Indian Express"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Krishna Pushkaram, the 12-day\u00a0festival that comes once in every 12 years, begins tomorrow\u00a0with over three crore devotees expected to take a holy dip in\u00a0the river across Andhra Pradesh.\u00a0About 3.5 crore people are expected to take a holy dip in\u00a0river Krishna in three districts of Andhra Pradesh but over 80\u00a0per cent of this crowd will be performing the rituals in\u00a0Vijayawada, the hub of Krishna Pushkaram every time.<\/p>\n<p>Having successfully completed the interlinking of rivers\u00a0Godavari and Krishna through the Pattisam Lift Irrigation\u00a0Scheme, the state government now wants to embark on the next\u00a0step to link river Krishna with Penna.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have interlinked Godavari and Krishna and now we have\u00a0to extend it to Penna and later to Somasila. The ultimate\u00a0objective is to make AP drought-free by the next Pushkaram,\u201d\u00a0Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has said.<\/p>\n<p>In all, 170 bathing ghats have been readied in Kurnool,\u00a0Guntur and Krishna districts for the Pushkaram.\u00a0A daily \u2018harati\u2019 programme will be organised at\u00a0Ibrahimpatnam near here, where the Godavari flows into\u00a0Krishna. A host of cultural programmes involving top artistes\u00a0have been lined up at various places.\u00a0The unique feature of Krishna Pushkaram this year is that\u00a0its technology-driven.<\/p>\n<p>The government machinery is making extensive use of\u00a0various information and communication technology tools for\u00a0effective crowd management and provision of facilities for the\u00a0lakhs of pilgrims who throng the bathing ghats every day.\u00a0While the state government launched a website\u00a0krishnapushkaram.ap.gov.in containing exhaustive information\u00a0about the event, a GPS-based mobile application has also been\u00a0launched for people to obtain information on ghats, the rush,\u00a0bus services, etc.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Led by Krishna District Collector Babu A and Chief\u00a0Minister\u2019s Joint Secretary P S Pradyumna, officials have\u00a0developed a software application Kaizala, in collaboration\u00a0with Microsoft that will act as an interaction tool between\u00a0the multi-disciplinary teams that have been deployed for\u00a0Pushkaram duties.<\/p>\n<p>Krishna is one of the 12 large perennial rivers in the\u00a0country.
