{"id":16861,"date":"2016-08-17T20:12:44","date_gmt":"2016-08-17T14:42:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/globalpress.hinduismnow.org?p=16858&amp;preview_id=16858"},"modified":"2016-08-17T20:12:44","modified_gmt":"2016-08-17T14:42:44","slug":"reports-of-financial-irregularities-at-padmanabha-swamy-temple-caused-mental-agony-travancore-royal-family","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/globalpress-new.hinduismnow.org\/?p=16861","title":{"rendered":"Reports of financial irregularities at Padmanabha Swamy temple caused mental agony: Travancore Royal family | The Indian Express"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><span class=\"custom-caption\">The Royal family was reacting to reports which said the committee headed by former Comptroller and Auditor General Vinod Rai had found \u201cabnormal\u201d increase in the expenditure at the temple and gold pots.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"full-details\">\n<p>The erstwhile Travancore\u00a0Royal family, which had earlier managed the famous Padmanabha\u00a0Swamy temple in Thiruvanathapuram, on Tuesday said media reports about a court\u00a0appointed committee finding alleged financial\u00a0irregularities\u00a0and missing gold pots had caused it \u201cextreme mental agony\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Royal family was reacting to reports which said the\u00a0committee headed by former Comptroller and Auditor General\u00a0Vinod Rai had found \u201cabnormal\u201d increase in the expenditure at\u00a0the temple and gold pots valued at Rs 186 crore had gone\u00a0missing and that it had recommended constitution of a panel to\u00a0probe the \u201cirregularities\u201d.\u00a0The family in a statement said the report had been\u00a0submitted to the Supreme Court and the court will hear all the\u00a0parties after which it will take a final decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe media reports have come out this way and it has\u00a0caused the Palace extreme mental agony. This type of report\u00a0will cause a big misunderstanding among the people,\u201d it said.\u00a0The statement said the Rai committee had submitted the\u00a0report without seeking any type of explanation from temple<br \/>\nExecutive Officer, Treasurer or those in responsible positions\u00a0during the period from April 2002 to April 2014 or from anyone\u00a0from the Royal family.<br \/>\n\u201c\u2026 any type of explanation had not been sought from the\u00a0Executive Officer, Treasurer or those holding responsible\u00a0positions during the period\u2026 Not only that, they have also\u00a0not made any attempt to elicit information in this regard from\u00a0the Palace,\u201d it said.\u00a0The report about missing pots had been made on the basis\u00a0of numbers marked on the pots.\u00a0\u201cThe Palace has no information whether there is any basis\u00a0for this report or if it has any connection with reality,\u201d it\u00a0said.<\/p>\n<p>The richest temple is now under the administration of a\u00a0committee appointed by the Supreme Court as a case is pending\u00a0in the court over issues related to its management.
