{"id":17272,"date":"2016-08-21T16:55:01","date_gmt":"2016-08-21T11:25:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/globalpress.hinduismnow.org?p=17269&amp;preview_id=17269"},"modified":"2016-08-21T16:55:01","modified_gmt":"2016-08-21T11:25:01","slug":"uttarakhand-500-acre-turtle-sanctuary-sanctioned-to-clean-up-ganga","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/globalpress-new.hinduismnow.org\/?p=17272","title":{"rendered":"Uttarakhand: 500-acre turtle sanctuary sanctioned to clean up Ganga | The Indian Express"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat has sanctioned a 500-acre land in Rishikesh for opening up of a turtle breeding centre in an effort to clean up Ganga.<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"full-details\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sources told <em>IANS<\/em> on Saturday that the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) has been holding talks with the state governments for setting up of such sanctuaries in the Ganga for aquatic animals, who will be used to clean up the river.<\/p>\n<p>An official pointed out that 400 crematoriums would also be constructed so that the \u2018kuccha cremation grounds\u2019 are done away with. Mere prevention of chemical laced water into the river \u2013 affluents from industries, was not a holistic approach towards cleaning the river and that it largely needed \u201cinvolvement of aquatic animals like fishes, turtles and crocodiles\u201d into the aquatic flora and fauna, an official informed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese animals have a natural mechanism to rid the river of pollutants\u201d the official said while informing that a unanimity has been arrived on having a \u201ccabinet minister\u201d in every state to coordinate with the first phase of cleaning up of the river.
