We advised them to perform the rituals and offer\u00a0<em>prasad<\/em>\u00a0to the lord at home and part take it,&#8221; the priest added, Reported by<a href=\"https:\/\/swarajyamag.com\/insta\/combating-coronavirus-ram-navami-celebrated-without-devotees-in-karnataka-temples\"> Swarajya.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n<p>The holy Ram Navami, the birthday of Lord Ram, was celebrated  in hundreds of temples across Karnataka  without devotees in view of 21-day lockdown enforced to contain the spread of coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s first time ever the devotees were unable to visit Ram temples to celebrate the lord&#8221;s birthday, as the lockdown is being strictly observed across the southern state,&#8221; an official of the state <a href=\"https:\/\/swarajyamag.com\/insta\/combating-coronavirus-ram-navami-celebrated-without-devotees-in-karnataka-temples\">muzrai<\/a> (endowment) department told.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>However, the temple priests worshipped the lord&#8217;s idol and offered prayers with great devotion amid the chanting of hymns in the temples even in the absence of devotees.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The temples were advised to keep their gates closed since 25 March when the lockdown was imposed up to 14 April. The celebrations, which normally last for 10 days, will be muted this year due to the Covid-19 outbreak fallout,&#8221; said<a href=\"https:\/\/swarajyamag.com\/insta\/combating-coronavirus-ram-navami-celebrated-without-devotees-in-karnataka-temples\"> the official.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n<p>Though priests and a couple of their assistants were allowed to perform the rituals for invoking the lord in the sanctum sanctorum, they have been advised to maintain physical distancing and keep the temples clean with the help of servants.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The curfew-like situation has kept hundreds of devotees, including women and children away from our temple. The vicinity, which is usually teemed with people, vehicular traffic and shops open for buying ritual items is deserted,&#8221; a priest of the Ram temple at Rajajinagar in the city&#8217;s northwest suburb told.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>A sweet dish offered to the lord as\u00a0<em>prasad<\/em>\u00a0for distribution to the devotees was prepared in less quantity amid the police patrolling and barricades to block vehicular movement.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It is also the first time that we are not able to offer the lord&#8217;s\u00a0<em>prasadam<\/em>\u00a0to the devotees as they are unable to visit the temple.
