The COVID19 pandemic has once again exposed the ugly racism and Hinduphobia of influential\u00a0sections\u00a0of the Western press, often through articles written by\u00a0desi sepoys\u00a0like Barkha Dutt, Aatish Taseer, Vidya Krishnan, Pankaj Mishra etc.<\/p>\n\n\n

Western intellectuals suffering from a colonial hangover like UK economist\u00a0Jim O\u2019Neill, US economist\u00a0Steve Hanke\u00a0and others have also been condescending or border-line wishing for thousands of Coronavirus deaths in Bharat, flabbergasted as they are with how Bharat has controlled the pandemic better compared to the way Western nations have been ravaged by it.<\/p>\n\n\n

Now, one tweet exposes the blatant double standards at play in the UK\u2019s left-leaning newspaper\u00a0The Guardian\u00a0<\/em>\u2013 which can be called the equivalent of Bharat\u2019s\u00a0The Hindu.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

The tweet shows how\u00a0The Guardian\u00a0<\/a><\/em>is publishing articles presenting shutdown or a 3-week lockdown as a desirable and rational move to safeguard public health in Western nations like USA and Australia.\u00a0 But when it comes to the ongoing 3-week COVID19 lockdown in Bharat, the article headline calls it \u201cModi\u2019s brutal lockdown\u201d and claims \u201cThe Indian prime minister\u2019s handling of the pandemic has heaped more misery on the country\u2019s poorest citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

While the problems caused by the lockdown to Bharat\u2019s migrant workers & daily wagers are real, the tough but timely decision to lock the country down has allowed us to contain the pandemic and scale up our health care preparedness. Governments and citizens have come together to provide and care for the less privileged through free rations, direct cash transfers, food banks, community kitchens etc.<\/p>\n\n\n

This is not to remotely suggest that Bharat has defeated the pandemic \u2013 there is a long way to go yet, and more tough decisions ahead such as how to exit the lockdown which is slated to end on 14th April. Economies across the world have taken a severe hit due to this pandemic, and Bharat is no different \u2013 navigating our way back to a growth trajectory will be a challenge for the Government and businesses of all sizes. But every citizen of Bharat can justifiably take pride in the way the crisis has been handled thus far by our state apparatus, given our resource limitations.<\/p>\n\n\n

Colonial-era<\/a> racists attitudes towards Bharat, especially Hindus, are a harsh reality of the modern West. They are exhibited by all shades of the political spectrum, from conservative outlets like\u00a0The Economist<\/em>\u00a0to left-leaning ones like\u00a0The Guardian<\/em>. The anti-Hindu left-liberal-Islamist cabal within Bharat is only too happy to provide fake narratives which confirm this bias.<\/p>\n\n\n
