Though we are so caught up in change, do we know really know the effect of this change on us. Are the changes happening in our lives, leading us somewhere or are we stuck in the same place? This article talks about types of changes, how to identify them and helps us to choose the kind of change we want for ourselves.

Compulsion Patterns

We
are constantly changing things around us. For example, many people
change job, change house, change car, change wife, change everything,
but does that lead them to any sort of satisfaction or fulfilment?
No. We played with small toys when we were young. We play with
bigger toys now. The underlying pattern has remained the same.

The
underlying pattern, which makes us act without revealing itself is a
compulsion pattern. Giving into our compulsion patterns leads only
to boredom and suffering. The more we give into such patterns, the
compulsion becomes stronger and stronger.

What freedom is not

The
western society, the materialistic & consumeristic civilization
is teaching you that giving in to your compulsion patterns is
freedom. They supply material for your compulsion patterns to
swindle and rob you. For example, think of the number of mobile
phones you have purchased or the number of cigarettes you have
smoked.

Giving
in to your compulsion patterns is not freedom. If you think that is
freedom, you are stupid. Don’t give in to your compulsion patterns.
Life becomes worse than hell when you are caught in them.

What freedom is

Freedom
is the ability to constantly redefine our:

inner
image : the way we see ourselves

outer
image : the way we project ourselves to others

life
image : how we look at life

others’
image : how others look at us

We
have made these statements for ourselves. Only human beings have the
unique freedom to define and redefine these images.

Types of Change

Binding
Change:
Actions that are taken from a fixed set of such images though might
appear different is similar to running on a tread mill. We are
going nowhere. This is change that is induced by compulsion
patterns and binds us.

Liberating
Change:
When we have mindfulness to identify the current set of images we
carry, we can replace them with new ones. Actions that are taken
from a new set of consciously created images is the real change that
leads us on the path to liberation.

How do I create a new set of images (inner,
outer, life & others’)?

Seeking
is the tool that constantly helps you to reinvent yourself. Seeking
is the antidote for all pattern compulsions. The process of Seeking
is explained below:

Once
in a while, you should withdraw from your office, house, everything.
Sit back, and look…

Whatever
I feel as ‘me,’ what is that? It is constantly changing, dilly
dallying, sometime it feels good, sometime it is bad, sometimes
right, sometimes wrong, sometimes knowledgeable, sometimes ignorant.
What is it? What am I? What is this that I call the world?

What
am I? What am I looking for? Where am I looking for that? From
whom am I looking for? Am I going to get it?”

Create
your images from the responses that you get from your inner space to
these questions.

Re-Strategizing and Re-Inventing your Life

Reinventing
and re-strategizing due to the conclusions of your seeking is
different from changing due to boredom and compulsion patterns by
giving in to them. Changing due to boredom leads you to a deeper and
deeper hell. Reinventing, re-strategizing due to your seeking leads
you to Enlightenment.

Live
Enlightenment!
