{"id":3078,"date":"2016-03-11T13:08:04","date_gmt":"2016-03-11T13:08:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/globalpress.hinduismnow.org?p=3075&amp;preview_id=3075"},"modified":"2016-03-11T13:08:04","modified_gmt":"2016-03-11T13:08:04","slug":"team-sri-sri-to-deposit-rs-25-lakh-today-rest-within-three-weeks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/globalpress-new.hinduismnow.org\/?p=3078","title":{"rendered":"Team Sri Sri To Deposit Rs 25 Lakh Today, Rest Within Three Weeks"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"ins_mainimg_caption\">The 3-day event organised by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar&#8217;s Art Of Living Foundation will include musical performances and mass meditation sessions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"ins_storybody\">\n<p><b class=\"place_cont\">New Delhi:\u00a0<\/b>Sri Sri Ravi Shankar&#8217;s organization has told India&#8217;s top environmental court that it cannot deposit the five crores ordered by judges before the event begins today on the banks of the River Yamuna in Delhi.\u00a0 The spiritual leader&#8217;s Art of Living foundation said it will pay 25 lakhs today and the rest within three weeks.However, the organizers of the three-day festival which will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said they want the five-crore payment to go towards the cost of creating a biodiversity park at the venue, which covers 1,000 acres on the Yamuna&#8217;s floodplains.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, Sri Sri, 59, told NDTV, &#8220;We will go to jail but not pay a penny.\u00a0 We have done nothing wrong.&#8221;\u00a0 The court remarked that the comment &#8220;is not expected from someone of Sri Sri&#8217;s stature&#8221; while declaring that the five crores will be treated not as a fine but as compensation for damages to the environment.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ins_instory_dv\">\n<div class=\"ins_instory_dv_cont\"><img id=\"story_image_main\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i.ndtvimg.com\/i\/2016-03\/sri-sri-event_650x400_41457677895.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>On Wednesday, the National Green Tribunal berated both the organizers and the government for failing to protect the venue&#8217;s delicate ecosystem.\u00a0 The court then asked for five crores with the warning of more to follow, and said a park must be created after the festival ends.<\/p>\n<p>After today, the Art of Living will owe the court 4.75 crores.
