{"id":42615,"date":"2017-02-27T19:02:35","date_gmt":"2017-02-27T13:32:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/globalpress.hinduismnow.org\/?p=42615"},"modified":"2017-02-27T19:02:35","modified_gmt":"2017-02-27T13:32:35","slug":"heritage-listed-shri-ganesha-hindu-temple-oaklands-park-gets-green-light-420000-expansion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/globalpress-new.hinduismnow.org\/?p=42615","title":{"rendered":"Heritage-listed Shri Ganesha Hindu temple in Oaklands Park gets green light for $420,000 expansion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Shri Ganesha Temple in Oaklands Park has been given the go-ahead to start work on a $420,000 expansion.<br \/>\nHindu Society of SA president Siva Selva said work would start in September or October on a redevelopment of the Dwyer Rd site.<br \/>\nMarion Council\u2019s Development Assessment Panel last week approved the plans, which include building a new outdoor cooking area, expanding an auditorium and extending a hall and dining room.<br \/>\nThe group will demolish a house it owns next door to allow space for the expansion, and build about 10 extra carparks.<br \/>\nMr Selva said the works would allow the temple to host extra language and cultural classes, and provide a more comfortable place for the community to meet.<br \/>\n\u201cWe\u2019ll do the same functions but we\u2019ll do it in a better way,\u201d he said.<br \/>\n\u201cPeople will now have airconditioning and heating, which is good for the summer and winter.\u201d<br \/>\nThe landmark was State Heritage listed in May 2013, as the first traditional Hindu temple built in SA.<br \/>\nIts design resembles a human body lying on its back with the head to the east and feet to the west. It houses 25 handcrafted deities, including Ganesha (a Hindu god), all made in India.<br \/>\nMr Selva said the society would apply to the State Government for $100,000 funding and make up the rest with member donations, bank loans and money it had already saved up.<br \/>\nHe hoped the work would be complete by June 2018.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Shri Ganesha Temple in Oaklands Park has been given the go-ahead to start work on a $420,000 expansion.
