\u2018JIGNASA -17,\u2019 Abhinavagupta\u2019s contribution to Sanskrit literature,\u2019 a two-day national conference, will be held on March 24 and 25 at Maharaja\u2019s College Centenary Hall in the city under the joint auspices of Department of Sanskrit, Maharani\u2019s Science College for Women, Mysuru, and with Amrutabharati, Mysore University Sanskrit Lecturers\u2019 Forum.<\/p>\n
Abhinavagupta of Kashmir was a scholar in Sanskrit literature. His works like \u2018Lochana,\u2019 a commentary on Anandavardhana\u2019s Dhvanyaloka, \u2018Abhinavabharati,\u2019 a commentary on Bharata\u2019s Natyashastra, \u2018Tantraloka,\u2019 are testimony to his scholarship and creativity. This is the millennium year of his death. To commemorate the occasion, the conference intends to throw light on the contribution of Abhinavagupta.<\/p>\n
The conference will be inaugurated on March 24 at 10.30 am. \u00a0Lakshmitatachar, president of Samskruti Foundation, will deliver the keynote address. A Nagaraju, principal of Maharani\u2019s Science College for Women, will preside. H V Nagaraja Rao, chairman of Sri Poornapragna Samshodhana Mandiram, will talk on \u2018Life and achievements of Abhinavagupta\u2019.<\/p>\n
M A Hegde, retired principal, will talk on \u2018Salient Features of Lochana on Dhvanyaloka\u2019. Madhusudana Adiga, associate professor, Kalabhairaveshvara Sanskrit Vedagama College, Adichunchanagiri Kshetra, Nagamangala, will deliver a lecture on \u2018Rasasvarupa in Abhinavabharati.\u2019<\/p>\n
Talk by experts on March 25<\/strong><\/p>\n On March 25 Boris Marjanovic, California, USA, a scholar in Kashmir Shaivism, will talk on \u2018Tantraloka \u2013 A study;\u2019 S Suryaprakash Pandit, journalist, will deliver a talk on \u2018Shaivadarshana of Abhinavagupta,\u2019 A V Nagasampige, director of Sri Poornaprajna Samshodhana Mandiram, will talk on \u2018Bhashya on Bhagavadgeeta,\u2019 and H P Devaki, director of Oriental Research Institute, Mysuru, will be the chief guest at the valedictory function.<\/p>\n D Sheela Kumari, associate professor of Sanskrit, is the convener of the conference.
