{"id":6131,"date":"2016-05-06T13:39:07","date_gmt":"2016-05-06T13:39:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/globalpress.hinduismnow.org?p=6128&amp;preview_id=6128"},"modified":"2016-05-06T13:39:07","modified_gmt":"2016-05-06T13:39:07","slug":"cm-shivraj-singh-chouhan-visits-kumbh-mela-site-normalcy-restored-post-thunderstorm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/globalpress-new.hinduismnow.org\/?p=6131","title":{"rendered":"CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan visits Kumbh Mela site, normalcy restored post thunderstorm | The Indian Express"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><span class=\"custom-caption\">Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan arrived at the Kumbh Mela at around 4 AM, and after visiting the affected area he returned to Bhopal at 9.30 AM, Ujjain Divisional Commissioner Ravindra Pastaur said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday\u00a0visited the ongoing Simhastha Kumbh Mela site where seven people were killed and around 90 others injured when heavy rains accompanied by lightning and squall flattened and uprooted makeshifts tents of pilgrims.<\/p>\n<p>Chouhan arrived at the Kumbh Mela\u00a0at around 4 AM, and after visiting the affected area he returned to Bhopal at 9.30 AM, Ujjain Divisional Commissioner Ravindra Pastaur said.<\/p>\n<p>The Chief Minister promised all help to the devotees, he said, adding the injured are being treated in hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, life on Friday\u00a0limped back to normal, a day after the nature\u2019s fury at the Kumbh Mela site in this ancient city.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNormalcy has returned to the holy city fast. Help from adjoining districts is pouring-in,\u201d Pastaur said.<\/p>\n<p>The rain had yesterday made large parts of the Mela ground slushy, making the rescue operation difficult. The authorities had cut off the electricity supply to the area as a precautionary measure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThings have been set right and electricity supply has been restored in the city,\u201d Pastaur said.<\/p>\n<p>Around nine lakh devotees and sadhus are in the city taking part in the Kumbh.<\/p>\n<p>Since midnight, the devotees have been taking a dip in the holy Shipra river, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the help of people from adjoining districts, we are providing meals and other facilities to the pilgrims,\u201d Pastaur said.<\/p>\n<p>Six persons were killed on Thursday\u00a0due to collapse of tents and some gates erected at the Kumbh area. Besides, a woman pilgrim was killed in Undasa area when lightning struck her.<\/p>\n<p>The second \u2018Shahi Snan\u2019 (royal bath) at the Kumbh is slated for May 9.<\/p>\n<p>A police official had on Thursday\u00a0said that nearly a third of the tents put up by the pilgrims were blown away in the squall.
