{"id":6961,"date":"2016-06-13T12:54:42","date_gmt":"2016-06-13T12:54:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/globalpress.hinduismnow.org?p=6958&amp;preview_id=6958"},"modified":"2016-06-13T12:54:42","modified_gmt":"2016-06-13T12:54:42","slug":"miris-first-hindu-temple-opens-its-doors-july-10","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/globalpress-new.hinduismnow.org\/?p=6961","title":{"rendered":"Miri\u2019s first Hindu temple opens its doors July 10"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div id=\"attachment_589072\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<div id=\"attachment_589072\" style=\"width: 670px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cdn.theborneopost.com\/newsimages\/2016\/06\/B16061319.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-589072\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-589072\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-589072 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/cdn.theborneopost.com\/newsimages\/2016\/06\/B16061319.jpg\" alt=\"Selvaraj (standing front row, fifth from left) presents a programme booklet on the temple\u2019s launching ceremony to Lee.\" width=\"660\" height=\"299\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-589072\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Selvaraj (standing front row, fifth from left) presents a programme booklet on the temple\u2019s launching ceremony to Lee.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>MIRI: More than 1,000 members of the Miri Hindu Society (MHS) will have a place to worship once their temple is completed by the end of this month.<\/p>\n<p>The Sri Kamini Thurga Iswari Amman Alayam Temple at Taman Tunku here will be the first Hindu temple here.<\/p>\n<p>MHS chairman Selvaraj Grapragasem said the RM1 million project was about 85 per cent completed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe project started in April last year and is expected to be completed by the end of this month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very thankful, especially to the state government, organisations, and the public for their donations to make Miri\u2019s first Hindu temple a reality,\u201d he said when Assistant Minister of Tourism Datuk Lee Kim Shin visited the project site on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The temple\u2019s launching and \u2018Maha Kumbabishegam\u2019 ceremony will take place on July 10, from 9am to 11am.<\/p>\n<p>Selvaraj, however, said MHS still needed more money for temple facilities and amenities; hence he appealed to the public for more donations.<\/p>\n<p>He said MHS had also organised fundraising events last year, such as the Deepavali Carnival.<\/p>\n<p>Lee said the support given by the government yet again showed it was concerned about the welfare of the minority and upheld the freedom of religion.<\/p>\n<p>He suggested that the temple and Hwa Kwang Shi Temple, located just opposite the road, share their carparks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will talk to the management of Hwa Kwang Shi Temple on this.
