{"id":7738,"date":"2016-06-20T18:41:45","date_gmt":"2016-06-20T18:41:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/globalpress.hinduismnow.org?p=7735&amp;preview_id=7735"},"modified":"2016-06-20T18:41:45","modified_gmt":"2016-06-20T18:41:45","slug":"yoga-department-in-6-central-universities-this-academic-session-says-smriti-irani","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/globalpress-new.hinduismnow.org\/?p=7738","title":{"rendered":"Yoga department in 6 central universities this academic session, says Smriti Irani"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"article_content\">\n<p>Six central universities will have\u00a0full-fledged departments of yoga from academic session\u00a02016-17, Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani said at National Seminar on Yoga held\u00a0on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The government would establish yoga departments in all central universities, but one each from North, South,\u00a0East, West,\u00a0Central and\u00a0North East India have been chosen for the first phase. By the end of this year, the department would be opened in at least 14 more universities.<\/p>\n<p>Hemwati Nandan Bahugana Garhwal University in Uttrakhand (North), Viswa Bharti in West Bengal (East), Central University of Rajasthan (West), Central University of Kerala (South), Indira Gandhi National Tribal University in Amarkantak, Madya Pradesh, (Central) and Manipur University (North East) are the universities where yoga departments would be opened this academic session.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the seminar on Saturday, Irani also said that the ministry has asked the University Grants Commission (UGC) to consider starting National Eligibility Test (NET) in yogic science.<\/p>\n<p>The decision was based on recommendations of Prof HR Nagendra-led 12-member\u00a0Committee on Yoga Education in Universities (CYEU) that suggested certificate, bachelors, masters and PhD courses in yogic science.<\/p>\n<p>The panel, established by the HRD ministry in January, had submitted its report in March, suggesting that the UGC allot Rs.\u00a010 crore\u00a0to &#8220;universities and colleges for creating Departments of Yogic Art and Science and to run them for a few years,&#8221; according to an earlier <a href=\"http:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/india\/india-news-india\/yoga-hrd-grant-department-yogic-arts-2759281\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Press Trust of India<\/a>\u00a0report. It also suggested an outline for the syllabus for all the courses.<\/p>\n<p>A sub-panel under the\u00a0CYEU\u00a0would reportedly focus on content of the yoga\u00a0courses that will be offered in the universities.
