{"id":9665,"date":"2016-07-06T22:02:22","date_gmt":"2016-07-06T22:02:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/globalpress.hinduismnow.org?p=9662&amp;preview_id=9662"},"modified":"2016-07-06T22:02:22","modified_gmt":"2016-07-06T22:02:22","slug":"bengal-celebrates-rath-yatra-offering-prayers-to-lord-jagannath","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/globalpress-new.hinduismnow.org\/?p=9665","title":{"rendered":"Bengal celebrates Rath Yatra offering prayers to Lord Jagannath | Central Chronicle"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\">Amidst tight security and thousands of devotees, adorned chariots today started rolling in various regions of West Bengal on the occasion of annual Rath Yatra (Chariot Festival). <\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\">The nine-day long sojourn celebrates the visit of Lord Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra and sister Shubhadra\u2019s visit to their aunt\u2019s house.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\">Like every year, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the famous Kolkata Rath Yatra organised by ISKCON.<br \/>\nShe greeted the people on the occasion of Rath Yatra and said, \u201cMay Lord Jagannath bless you with peace, prosperity and happiness\u201d<br \/>\nISKCON is celebrating its golden jubilee this year. The chief minister reached the temple at\u00a0around 1100 hours, and after a darshan, flagged off the annual journey of the three deities.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\">Amid jubilant chants of \u201cHare Krishna\u201d, thousands of devotees from across the world pulled the multi-hued chariots. Themed on the world\u2019s largest Vedic temple Chandrodaya Mandir at West Bengal\u2019s Mayapur, the ISKCON rath yatra witnessed legions of devotees accompany the deities atop three chariots from the Hungerford Street opposite the ISKCON temple on Albert Road in south Kolkata to reach the Brigade Parade Ground in the central part of the city<br \/>\nThe chariots, or raths, moved through the Minto Park crossing, Sarat Bose Road, Hazra Road,<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\">SP Mukherjee Road, Ashutosh Mukherjee Road, then on to Exide crossing, JL Nehru Road, Outram Road, to end at Brigade Parade Ground, where daily special darshan of Lord Jagananth from<br \/>\nJuly 7 to 14 has been arranged. Prasad will also be distributed during the darshans.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\">Cultural programmes, special contests for empowerment, a youth festival, and performances by Russian dancers and a Kolkata-based dance troupe will be held during the week-long festival.
