Temple tank being filled with water | The Hindu

A large volume of water has been pumped out from various borewells and channelised into the temple tank for the forthcoming float festival at Srirangam on Marh 8.

Despite these efforts, not much water has been realised on the field which remained bone dry due to successive failure of monsoon and drought-prone condition in the past two years. The annual festival marking the Masi theppam falls in the Tamil month of Masi.

The Hindu Religious and Chairtable Endowment Department made elaborate arrangements for drawing water from various sources in the vicinity and set up a deep bore well for drawing water on the bunds of the tank.

“We have been supplying water to the tank for the past one week but there has been a serious percolation of supply,” an official source said on Wednesday. However, the level is expected to rise steadily once the entire area gets wet.
