The Chandi homasala is planned in view of the little space available in the temple premises.

The temple authorities are planning to provide seating capacity to at least 200 persons in the new homasala. At present, 80 to 100 devotees can be accommodated for the homam.

There is huge demand from the devotees for the ritual, which is performed every day. A couple can take part in the Chandi homam by paying Rs. 516.

Special designs

According to information, special designs have been prepared for the homasalain accordance with the silpa and agama rules. There will not be any sculptures or carvings of goddess Kanaka Durga on the mandapam as it primarily meant for performing the rituals. But it will have a magnificent look and aesthetic value.

The homasala will be built using black granite, which will be procured from Chilakaluripeta. The homasala is designed in such a way that there is no need for exhaust fans to remove hot, humid air and replace it with cool, dry air. Instead, chimneys would be constructed to drive out the smoke emanating from the homa gundam (fire altar). The construction will be done by the donor, while the designs will be given by the temple authorities.

When contacted, temple Executive Officer A. Surya Kumari said, “A donor has come forward to foot the bill. We will start work very soon.” The authorities estimated that the homasala would cost about ₹5 crore. The designs were prepared in such a way that the homasala could be expanded in future, she said.
