An international animal smuggling nexus has been uncovered by the police from the border areas near Jharkhand, Odisha and Bengal’s Gudabanda, about 80 km from Jamshedpur.
Police have recovered cows and bulls worth about Rs 20 lakh. According to the police, these animals were being sent to Bangladesh via Bengal.
According to the information, the area of Gudabanda police station is affected by naxalism. This area is from the border of Bengal, Odisha, due to which smugglers find it easier to smuggle cattle through deserted routes. The police had been getting information for a few days that cows and oxen were being smuggled through the Odisha route and were first being brought to Gudabanda area of Jharkhand.
International cattle smugglers were taking cows on foot from the Chingra area of Bengal and then from there to Bangladesh. At around two o’clock on Tuesday night, Gudabanda police received information about the arrival of animals. Police seized all the cows after a complete siege.
The police has arrested one smuggler. At the same time, the remaining five accused took advantage of the darkness and fled.
