In an act of outright attack on a Hindu temple, GMC officials demolished the Kanakadurgamma temple situated in front of Kolli Sarada Market in Guntur city, as part of a road-expansion work. GMC officials initially attempted to demolish the temple during a midnight operation. Knowing the matter, local devotees and Hindu activists arrived at the scene, protested, and prevented the demolition.
However, the officials returned at around 2 pm on Thursday and went ahead with the demolition works.
“We expressed our willingness in shifting the temple to another place. We demand that the GMC allot another land for the temple’s reconstruction,” temple committee member M Srinivas Rao said.
