A group of Islamic fundamentalists under the leadership of Maulvi Helaluddin (40) and Jamaluddin of Lohagara police station in Chittagong district attacked Buddhist Temple On 03.05.2020, at 3.30 am with weapons and attacked “Bibbili Shanti Bihar” in Bibbili area. This attack took place around 3:30 am on Sunday in the presence of police.
As per the locals Buddhists in the area have been in a state of panic since the attack.
Bangladesh Minority Watch spoked with complainant Joysen Barua – he told them “there was evidence of assault in the presence of police” he told us not to say everything in writing “he added” we have police surveillance “we hope your cooperation too ” Joysen Barua was found very much shaky in describing the story of attack on them on the night of occurrence.
Bhadanta S Dharma Tilak, the Buddhist monk, the principal of the temple, said, “Around 40 people attacked the temple at around 3.30 am on Sunday. They vandalized the temple’s windows, walls and a Buddha statue.
“I hid behind the rack in the temple room to save my life,” he further said. They attacked the temple by firing three rounds of bullets” Some villagers, who did not want to be named, complained that “Abu Reza Muhammad Nezamuddin Nadvir, the local MP from Chittagong-15 constituency, was involved in the attack.” Local Awami League leader Helal and his followers attacked, villagers complained.
