HINDU NGOs in Penang have slammed a shop found to be selling floor mats with the likeness of a Hindu deity, The Star has reported.
Penang Hindu Association (PHA) president P. Murugiah said the floor mats with the likeness of Lord Vinayagar were found for sale in a popular do-it-yourself shop operating in a major shopping mall on the island.
There have been repeated controversies and condemnations after shops were found to be selling footwear or underwear featuring Hindu deities.
The PHA and the Penang Hindu Dharma Mamandram want an immediate ban on the sale of such items as they can offend Hindu spirituality.
