Work on the construction of a temple dedicated to Sri Tirupurasundari – Sri Chandramouleeswarar at Mahendramangalam near Musiri on the banks of the Cauvery in the district is nearing completion.
The foundation for this temple was laid about six years ago on the advice of Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal of Kanchi Kamakotti Peetam.
The unique feature of this village is that it had close connection with the life of Sri Paramacharya. It was in this village that Sri Paramacharya stayed for three years till 1914 after becoming the Head of the Sri Sankara Mutt. It was here, that Sri Paramacharya learnt the Vedas.
Sri Paramachaya had worshipped Sri Chandramouleeswarar and Sri Tiripurasundari at this village during the stay here. The temple, with several inscriptions was located amidst banana fields.
The idols were retrieved from amidst the rubbles of the temple in the banana fields and brought to a site on the Tiruchi – Salem highway before the foundation was laid.
Now, the work on the ‘vimanams’ for the presiding deity of Sri Chandramouleeswarar and Sri Tirupurasundari and other shrines is on.
According to temple sources, the civil work has been completed and the compound and other allied works would be completed soon.
