The Panguni Uthiram festival could not be celebrated on Sunday due to COVID-19 pandemic, The Hindu has reported.

The festival is usually celebrated with gaiety and fervour, with devotees thronging the shrines. The famous Nellaiappar Gandhimathi Amman Temple would witness huge turnout through out the day with pujas and aradhanas .

However, with the curfew in place, people remained indoors. Priests performed special pujas on the occasion.
