Inter-faith Pongal celebration at Koniamman Temple

An inter-faith Pongal celebration was organised at Koniamman Temple in the city on Saturday and special prayers were held for rain and for the welfare of farmers while celebrating the harvest festival.
Organised by Universal Brotherhood Association, the celebration was attended by various religious leaders and also political leaders and social workers.
District Collector T.N. Hariharan inaugurated the celebrations and pongal prepared on the premises of the temple was served to all at the function.
V. Nandakumar, one of the organisers, said that Hindu, Muslim and Christian children who had come in traditional attires took part in the prayer session held for rain and welfare of farmers in the State.

Jabbar, general secretary of Coimbatore District United Jamaat; Krishnamoorthy Swamikal of Arulsakthi Peetam; William Moses, former CSI Bishop of Coimbatore; Sardar Iqbal Singh of Coimbatore Gurudwara Singh Sabha; K. Vimala, executive officer of Koniamman Temple; Vincent Vetharaj, former district governor of Lions Club, Coimbatore; and Muhammed Ibrahim Baqavi, Chief Imam of Athar Jamaat Mosque, took part in the celebrations.
