On the lines of the temple constructed in New Delhi and Gandhinagar, Jalandhar too has got its Akshardham Temple along the Jalandhar-Amritsar highway.
Set to formally open on March 1, the temple with a magnificent architecture has come up at Surya Enclave on a special purpose land allotted by the Jalandhar Improvement Trust six years ago.
It was during the tenure of BJP minister Tikshan Sud that the land, measuring 1.18 acres, was allotted to the temple authorities at a reserve price of Rs 6,475 per sq feet. Meanwhile, mahants and devotees from Gujarat, New Delhi and other areas of North India have started gathering at the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir, which has come up in a unique, earth-coloured design made by carving stone, concrete and even fibre.
Preparations are on for holding a shobha yatra in the city on Sunday. Religious functions will begin on February 28 to be followed by the installation of the idols of deities the next day.
