The residents of Edappadi town and surrounding villages belonging to Sri Paruvatharajakulam community enjoy a special privilege in offering worship at the Palani Arulmigu Murugan Temple on Thaipoosam festival day for more than three centuries.
As per the established special link, the Sri Paruvatharajakulam community devotees are permitted to make overnight stay in the temple atop the hill and have special darshan and offer special worship. Such a privilege is not extended to any other section, according to a cross section of the devotees of Edappadi.
Usually the temple opens at 5 a.m. and closes by 9 p.m. for public darshan. No one is allowed to stay on the temple premises overnight. The Edappadi devotees say that this rare privilege was offered to their forefathers by the temple management more than three centuries ago and they were continuing the tradition without any break.

Every year, the Sri Paruvatharajakulam community people of Edappadi town and the surrounding villages of Vellandivalasai, Palayapettai, Pudupettai, Kavundampatti proceed on a padayathra to Palani Temple carrying kaavadis.

The highlight of the pilgrimage of Edappadi devotees is the preparation of 20 tonnes of ‘panchamirtham.’
