Fire-checks near temple
Mar 5, 2017

The district administration will conduct emergency checks on the possibility of fire in buildings in the high security area in the vicinity of Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple.
The checks will be conducted in buildings within 100-metre radius of the temple. A squad, involving departments including KSEB, city Corporation, Archaeology, Revenue, and Fire Force, has been formed for the purpose. The buildings will be classified based on the risk of fire, considering factors including the year it was built, the construction style, the details of electrical wiring and the purpose for which the building is being put to use, said Additional District Magistrate V. Samuel, at a meeting held here on Saturday to form the squad.

Directions have been given to complete the security checks within one month and submit a report. Based on this report, notices will be served to the building owners if changes should be made as per the guidelines. Two buildings of the Department of Posts, located near the temple’s north gate and a petrol pump, were gutted in a fire last Sunday. Two persons involved in the fire-fighting efforts were injured. This is the third major fire break-out in the high-security zone during the last six months.
