Punjab University Sanskrit dept’s library sans staff
Mar 8, 2017

From the past six months, Panjab University’s Sanskrit department library is functioning without any librarian and PhD scholars are managing it along with clerical staff.
Interestingly, if any student wants to get the book issued or return, the clerical staff who manages office has to be approached. There is no care taker of this library.
Sources said six months ago, the clerk, who was handling the library of the department, was transfer to some other department since then the post was lying vacant.
Resultantly, the library neither has proper sitting space nor have proper cleanliness. The library was set up 10 years ago in the department as the students have to visit the main library for books. But the students say that it was of not much use to them.
The department thesis and catalogues are available online on the department’s website but there is no provision of getting and return of books online.
Chairman of the department Shankarji Jha said a communication was sent to the authorities for the appointment of a full-time library staff but action was yet to be taken.
