Ujjain: Devotees thronged the famous Chintaman Ganesh temple, 6 kilometers from the city on Wednesday, to observe the first ‘Jatra’ of the Hindu month of ‘chaitra’. A visit to the presiding deity, Ganesha is considered auspicious on this day.
The idol of Lord Ganesha was specially adorned at 9 am early in the morning. During the first ‘Jatra’ devotees had a comfortable glimpse of Lord Ganesha. According to the Hindu ‘Panchang’, there will be four ‘Jatras’ in the month of Chaitra this year, and on every ‘Jatra’ Lord Ganesha will have a different appearance.
According to devotees sufficient arrangements for potable water were made by the temple management committee . Tents have also been installed to protect devotees from direct sunlight.
According to the priest of the temple, Ganesh Guru, Santosh and Ishwar Guru, the temple opened at 4 am early in the morning when ‘abhishek’ and other rituals were performed. ‘Modaks’ were distributed among the devotees after the ‘Maha arti.’
