Uddhav Thackeray Led Maharashtra Government Renames Aurangabad Airport As Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Airport
Mar 6, 2020

Uddhav Thackeray led Maharashtra government on Thursday (5 March) renamed the Aurangabad airport after Sambhaji Maharaj the first born son and successor of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The airport will be named as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Airport, SWARAJYA has reported.

As per reports, this decision of renaming the Aurangabad airport was taken at a state cabinet meeting chaired by Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

Many people have been demanding to rename Aurangabad as Sambhaji Nagar. Just a few days ago the BJP had made the demand, which resulted in an attack from the Shiv Sena. They questioned as to why BJP did not change the name while in power.

In the past the Shiv Sena also had repeatedly demanded to change the name of the city. The party has recently faced criticism for attempting to turn ‘secular’ after joining hands with the Congress and NCP.
