The great Maratha Warrior Shivaji’s son Sambhaji was captured by Mughals, dressed as a buffoon and paraded on camel, executed, cut into pieces and fed to dogs because he denied to convert to Islam, as per “Maasir-i-Alamgiri” of Saqi Must’ad Khan.
After Shivaji’s death, Shambhaji became the king of Marathas.
Sambhaji fought bravely by putting up gallant resistance against Mughals for nine years.
However, he was betrayed by his own relatives, the Shikre family. In 1689, his relatives revealed about his location to Mughals.
Mughal troops suddenly plunge into a resting Sambhaji and captured him. He was dressed as buffoon and paraded on camel. Wife and daughters were captured and enslaved.
Aurangzeb offered to spare Sambhaji’s life if he agrees to his two conditions:
1)If he converted to Islam
2)If he surrendered forts, men and treasures
“I would not convert to Islam even if Aurangzeb bribed me with marriage to his daughter” said the brave warrior Sambhaji.
Sambhaji was captured by the Mughals. His eyes were plucked out. His tongue was cut out. After a fortnight’s physical torture, his limbs were hacked into pieces and fed to dogs.
In Maasir I Alamgiri, the official” Mughal-sponsored history record of Aurangzeb, it says Aurangzeb did this to Sambhaji “out to his devotion to Islam so that Muslims might be heartened and (Hindu) infidels disheartened”
