With Rs 2.4 crore in Yes Bank, Kolkata division of Iskcon to appeal to PM Narendra Modi

Officials of the accounts department of Iskcon have desperately been trying to convince the Camac Street branch of the bank to let the religious institution to withdraw the money, The Times of India has reported.

KOLKATA: The Kolkata division of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon) has Rs 2.4 crore deposited in Yes Bank.

The authorities have decided to write to both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman after Holi, seeking their intervention.

Officials of the accounts department of Iskcon have desperately been trying to convince the Camac Street branch of the bank to let the religious institution to withdraw the money.

After the Centre imposed restrictions on withdrawal of cash from Yes Bank, it came to light that around Rs 545 crore of Puri’s Jagannath Temple is stuck in the bank. but Tirupati Temple has withdrawn its 13000 crore from the bank few months before the bank sink into crisis.

However ISKCON Kolkata was successful in drawing a large part of their deposits from the bank but they could not succeed to draw the last fixed deposit 2.4 crores.

Reportedly the interests obtained from this 2.4 crores was used for feeding meals to poor people and school children. A total of 10,000 children were fed with te help of this account.

Radharaman Das, spokesperson of ISKCON Kolakta said that they started withdrawing money phase wise when they got to know about the bank’s crisis before it gets too late to handle situations. He further said that they had not been successful to withdraw anything for the last one and a half month.

The spiritual organisation now fear that the free meal scheme for children will be heavily affected by this situation.
