Margao: The right wing organization, Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha, announced the launch of its Goa unit on Friday and declared its intention of contesting all 40 seats in the forthcoming assembly elections.
The death anniversary of Veer Savarkar, who was associated with the Hindu Mahasabha during the nation’s freedom struggle. Significantly, Anup Sardesai, the author of the book, ‘Nathuram Godse: The Story of an Assassin’, the release of which recently stoked a controversy, is the interim president of the Goa unit. Godse was also known to be a member of the Hindu Mahasabha.Addressing mediapersons along with working president Sidharth Yaji, Sardesai said that a demand for a total ban on beef and products made from cattle remains would be among the major issues the party will take up.
Leaders said the unit will also seek the replacement of the picture of Mahatma Gandhi on currency notes by one of the Ashok Stambh. Hindu Mahasabha leaders said, “Gandhi certainly cannot be superior to the nation’s emblem.”
Over the MoI row, the party voiced its stand in support of Indian languages, and favoured the idea of bringing all schools under government control.
