BBMP’s plans for temple demolition creates huge commotion in Bengaluru

Tensions rise near Halasuru Lake as BBMP plans to raze religious Structure, Bangalore Mirror reports.

With the alleged plan of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) authorities to demolish a temple structure, hundreds of people from Kallahalli, Sivanchetti Garden, Halasuru and other areas gathered on wednesday Morning on Annaswamy Mudaliar Road.

According to Asha, who maintains the temple structure that accommodates of idols of Lord Ganesh, Muneeshwara, Om Shakthi, the structure is more than 100 years old and poses no hurdle either to vehicular traffic or pedestrians.

“Adjacent building owner by name Uttam Reddy has filed a case in the court seeking removal of the temple structure. A BBMP engineer has tried to handover a notice to me but I refused to take it as a case is pending in the court. The hearing is listed o March 12,” said Asha.

Meanwhile the devotees gathered on the spot and protested against the removal of the temple structure. According to a devotee the temple structure exists much before the building.

Police rushed to the spot as more and more devotees gathered at the place.

Mamata Saravana, Corporator of Halasuru ward and her husband Saravana also arrived at the place.

When asked whether she was aware of the BBMP’s plan to remove the temple structure, Mamata said that she would contact the BBMP Commissioner to know more details on this issue. “I will revert after consulting BBMP Commissioner,’’ she said.
