KATHMANDU: Students are observing Guru Purnima (Teacher’s Day) across the country today.
Guru Poornima falls on the full moon day in the month of Ashadh according to Nepali calendar. Students show gratitude to their Gurus for imparting education and teachings on the day.

They also offer prayers for, garlands and delicacies to teachers and receive blessings from them. The day is also celebrated in memory of Veda Vyas, the author of Upanishads and 18 puranas in Sanskrit.

The day is celebrated to express gratitude towards Gurus, said theologist and chairman of the Panchanga Nirnayak Samiti, Nepal Prof Dr Ram Chandra Gautam.
As per Hindu values, seniors in terms of knowledge, strength and experience are also respected as teachers. Various educational institutes, schools, colleges and sports organisations are celebrating the festival across the country.
With the advancement in communication technology, students have taken to the modern form of, social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and Whats App to pay homage to their teachers.
