Sunamganj, Derai Upzila, Bangladesh: A notable baul singer Ranesh Thakur’s musical room was burned down here to ground by unknown miscreants. He lost his many musical instruments & valuable scripts due to burning.
The incident took place in Ujaldhal village of Derai upazila in the district at around 2am on Monday, said Derai police station officer in charge KM Nazrul Islam.
Many musical instruments including drums, harmonium and monochord kept in the room for performing musical programs were also burnt to ashes along with the room.
Baul Ranesh Thakur said on Sunday, after having dinner he along with family members had gone to bed for sleep. However, around 4am on Monday, he along with his family members woke up hearing people shouting and saw the music room was burning.
Many devotees around the country would gather at the music room for learning music. Now, the room is ravaged by fire which would stop the learning of baul songs, said Jui Thakur, daughter of Ranesh Thakur.
