Jammu: Incidents of cattle smuggling are increasing in J&K with the Eid approaching. Police on Tuesday foiled three bovine smuggling bids by rescuing 49 bovines and arresting 5 smugglers in separate actions.
During Naka checking, police intercepted one group of 23 bovines which was taken on foot by the smugglers separately towards Kashmir without any valid permission.
All bovines were rescued and the bovine smugglers namely Mushtaq Ahmed, son of Siraj Din, resident of Ramban at present Kathua and Rehemoo, son of Kallu, resident of Akhnoor were arrested on the spot.
Meanwhile, Police Station Gharota received an information that some unknown persons are smuggling bovines from Dhar Dharochan area. Upon this, a team of Police Station Gharota led by Inspr. Rajesh Sharma, SHO under the directions of SDPO Akhnoor, Ajay Sharma immediately reached the spot and apprehended one person who disclosed his name as Younis Ali, son of Abdullah, resident of Dhar Dharochna Tehsil Bhalwal and also disclosed the identity of two absconding accused persons as Mushtaq, son of Mohammad Hussain and Gogan, son of Raghunath Singh, both residents of Dhar Dharochan Tehsil Bhalwal.
The accused persons were transporting 5 bovines by foot towards Valley but due to timely and swift action police team succeeded in rescuing these animals. Subsequently, a case vide FIR No. 32/2020 under section 188 IPC was registered at Police Station Gharota.

Two persons namely Mohd Yousaf, son of Suleman, resident of Kans Kassa, Reasi and Abdul Majid, son of Suleman, resident of Deera Baba, Reasi were arrested on the spot. Cases vide FIR Nos. 190 and 191/2020 under relevant section of law have been registered at Police Station Nagrota.
